Standards

This feature of BarrierBreak A11yNow displays the default accessibility rulesets available in the application. Based on these standard rulesets, users can create customized rulesets. Custom guidelines support two types of rulesets:

  • Automated: The Automated type includes rulesets that are checked automatically during a scan.
  • Manual: Rules that you can create and customize based on the default guideline. You can modify properties such as severity, role and status.

Standard Rulesets

To view the available standard rulesets,

  1. Navigate to BarrierBreak A11yNow.
  2. Go to Settings and click on Standard.
  3. View the list of standard and customized rulesets.
  4. You can inactive the standard ruleset, to disable a standard ruleset.
  5. Click on Set as Default to use a standard for all new projects.
  6. Use the Search box to find a specific ruleset.

note

After you set a ruleset as the default, you can’t change default setting later.

Filtering Standards

To filter standards,

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. Select Filter at the upper-right corner.
  3. Filter the list from the following options
  • Element
  • Type
  • Success Criteria
  • Severity level.
  1. Click Apply to apply the filters or clear the settings.

Applied filters will appear at the top of each corresponding filter categories.

Creating Custom Standards

To create a custom standard,

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. Click on Create Custom Standard, create Custom Standard pop-up appears.
  3. Enter the Standard Name, select a Guideline from the drop-down.
  4. Choose a status as:
  • Active
  • Inactive
  • Default
  1. Click on Create to save a standard or Cancel it.

Manage Standards

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. Select a custom standard.
  3. Under Automated, you can:
  • Edit the issue type
  • Change the severity level
  • Update the role.
  • Enable or disable individual issue type
  1. If needed, you can change the standard ruleset to Inactive.
  2. Click on Set as Default to use the ruleset for all new projects.

Filtering Custom Standards

To filter,

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. At the top right corner, you will be able to see the filter option.
  3. You can filter the settings from the options such as (Element, Type, Success Criteria, Level and Severity).
  4. Click on Apply to apply the filter or clear the settings.

Add a Manual Issue Type

To add a manual issue type,

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. Select a custom standard.
  3. Click on Add. The Edit Ruleset pop-up window appears.
  4. Enter or select the following information:
  • Enter the issue type
  • Select an element, issue, success criteria, severity and status from the drop-down lists
  • You can select a role, enter any results, recommendation and expected results
  1. Click on Save to add the issue type or Cancel it.

Edit a Manual Issue Type

  1. To edit an issue type,
  2. Click on Edit. The Edit Ruleset pop-up window appears.
    • You can edit the issue type
    • Select from the drop-down list
      • Element
      • Issue
      • Success criteria
      • Severity, status
      • Role
    • Enter any results, recommendation and expected results.
  3. Click on Save to apply your changes or cancel it.

Filtering Custom Standards

To filter,

  1. Go to Settings and click on Standards.
  2. At the top right corner, you will be able to see the filter option.
  3. You can filter the settings from the options such as (Element, Type, Success Criteria, Level and Severity).
