Setting up A11yInspect for Google Chrome

BarrierBreak A11yInspect is a Google Chrome extension that helps users conduct accessibility checks on webpages.

Install BarrierBreak A11yInspect

  1. Open A11yInspect on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Select Add to Chrome.
  3. When prompted, select Add extension.

Pin BarrierBreak A11yInspect to the Google Chrome toolbar

  1. In Google Chrome, select the Extensions button on the toolbar.
  2. Select the Pin icon next to BarrierBreak A11yInspect.
  3. The BarrierBreak A11yInspect icon appears in the Google Chrome toolbar.

Open Inspect

Open Inspect to run tests using A11yInspect.

  • Windows/Linux: Ctrl + Shift + C or F12
  • macOS: Cmd + Opt + C
    You can also right-click on the page and select Inspect.

Steps to Run a Test

  1. Open the webpage you want to test.
  2. Right-click the page and select Inspect.
  3. Under the Elements panel, select the A11yInspect tab next to Styles.

  1. Choose the Element Type and Guideline.
  2. Select Test Now.
  3. The test results are displayed.
  4. After making changes, select Refresh to rerun the test.

Steps to Use A11yInspect Bookmarklets

  1. Open the webpage you want to test.
  2. Select the BarrierBreak A11yInspect extension in the browser toolbar.
  3. Select one or more bookmarklets based on your testing needs (for example, Headings, Links, or Images).
  4. View the accessibility information displayed on the page.
